This tie down is called The Piper because of a little girl named Piper who's barrel horse needed a flat tiedown to fit smoothly under a hackamore but also have more give than a leather noseband.
The braided paracord allows for less stiffness along the nose, better for balancing.
The leather strap still has enough leverage to keep the horse's head down but does offer more give than biothane.
This is a great option for barrel horses that need help balancing but is not so restrictive.
This is not for a horse that is heavy or strong on the bit. For those horses I would suggest a rope nose tie down.
This would also work well for a young horse starting to learn the pressure of a tie down.
I use spring snaps on my tie downs so that there is no risk of the snap breaking during a run.
*As a reminder, please always use a tie down keeper for your tie down straps, and do not leave them hanging or run behind the breast collar. Leaving them hanging runs the risk of your horse stepping over the strap when they put their head down, as well as the strap becoming lodged to the left or right of the breast collar, creating uneven pressure or rubs. Running the strap behind the breast collar creates too much friction meaning rubs as well as not allowing the tie down to function properly, placing the pulling point at the base of their neck rather than down to the cinch.*
